The Itinerary and Risk Assessment

After an introductory talk that sets the scene, students will spend the day living and working like priests and priestesses. Our Ancient Greece trip programme will see your group travel through Ancient Greece discovering the culture and lifestyles that make each state unique. Taking part in typical Greek activities such as arts, warfare and sports, your children will get be immersed in a range of Greek life experiences learning ancient Greek school facts first-hand.

Activity Options

Prepare for one of the greatest battles in Greek history — the Battle of Thermopylae! Led by King Leonidas and his 300 warriors, you’ll take your place on the front lines, defending your city-state against the invading Persian army. Will you have the courage and strength to protect your homeland, or will the Persians overrun your defenses? It’s time to show your valor!

This activity provides an immersive experience of the Battle of Thermopylae, a pivotal moment in Greek history. Children will learn about the bravery and tactics of the Spartan warriors and their defense against the Persian invaders. The activity promotes understanding of ancient warfare, leadership, and sacrifice, and encourages teamwork, strategic thinking, and historical empathy.

In Ancient Greece, the goddess Themis upheld justice, ensuring that the laws of the city-state were followed. Today, you’ll take on the role of jurors in a trial, deciding the fate of individuals who have broken the law. Will you be merciful, or will you demand harsh punishment? Your decisions will show your understanding of Greek justice and the importance of maintaining order in society.

This activity helps children understand the Greek legal system, specifically the role of the Heliaia (jury) in Athenian democracy. Children will explore themes of justice, law, and punishment in Ancient Greece, developing critical thinking skills as they discuss and decide on the appropriate punishment for various crimes. This activity introduces children to the ancient Greek Olympic Games, exploring their significance in Greek culture as both a religious festival and a competition. Children will learn about the values of physical fitness, athleticism, and competition that were central to Greek society. The activity promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, and an understanding of how the Olympics were an important part of Greek religious and cultural life.

In the fierce city-state of Sparta, warriors were trained from a young age to defend their homeland. Now, you’ll take part in Spartan military drills and maneuvers. With the gods Athena and Ares watching, you’ll learn how the Spartans prepared for battle, working together as a team to defend their city-state. Are you ready to prove your courage and resilience as a true Spartan warrior?

This activity introduces children to the Spartan military system and the values of courage, teamwork, and discipline that were crucial to Spartan society. Children will learn about the unique warrior culture of Sparta, including the training of soldiers and the importance of strategy and defense. The activity emphasises physical fitness, cooperation, and perseverance, while also helping children understand Spartan society’s focus on military readiness.

Step into the heart of ancient Greece’s economy — the Agora! You’ll work as traders to buy and sell goods, trying to build your city-state’s wealth and prosperity. With Hermes watching over your trade, you’ll need to make wise decisions and negotiate to succeed. Can you manage your resources and thrive, or will your city-state fall into ruin?

This activity simulates the trade and commerce that helped Greek city-states survive and thrive. Children will engage in decision-making, negotiation, and problem-solving, while learning about the importance of the Agora in Greek society. The activity introduces concepts of economics, resource management, and the role of commerce in the development of civilizations.

Welcome to the Festival of Dionysus in Athens! This grand festival celebrates Greek theatre, dance, and entertainment in honor of the god Dionysus. You’ll take part in the festival competition, performing in a play or dance inspired by Greek myths. Will you impress Dionysus and the other gods with your talent? Get ready for a fun, creative performance where you might be showered with praise!

This activity allows children to engage with the cultural and artistic aspects of Ancient Greece, specifically Greek drama, performance, and theatre. Through performing in a Greek play or dance, children will develop their creativity, public speaking, and teamwork skills. They will also learn about the role of festivals in Greek society, particularly how the arts were integral to religious worship and civic life.

Children will practice fire-starting techniques using modern strikers but referencing ancient Greek techniques such as fire lenses, developing practical survival skills. Take aim and honor the gods of archery! Artemis, goddess of the hunt, and her brother Apollo, god of the sun, will be watching as you practice your archery skills. This activity teaches children about the significance of archery in ancient Greece, particularly in military defense and hunting. Children will develop their hand-eye coordination, focus, and precision as they practice archery under the guidance of a qualified instructor.

The gods and heroes of ancient Greece love to tell stories of their great adventures. As you go on your quest, you’ll follow a trail around the site, stopping at stations to hear tales of the gods.
