On a Romans KS2 school trip, you will be legionaries in the Roman army in Roman Britain with the hope of making a name for yourselves and earning your way up through the ranks...

Step into the world of Calleva Atrebatum on a KS2 Romans trip like no other.
At Ufton Court, we bring Roman history to life through immersive storytelling, hands-on activities, and engaging drama. Our KS2 Roman school trips transport children into the heart of a bustling Roman town, where they become legionaries, citizens, and apprentices in a mission to prove themselves worthy of the empire.
Our trips are curriculum-aligned and designed to inspire curiosity and deep learning. Whether you're visiting for a day or staying overnight, we provide unforgettable, hands-on learning in a truly unique setting.
The Itinerary and Risk Assessment
After an introductory talk that sets the scene, students will spend the day living and working like Romans. They will learn how the Roman Empire shaped Iron Age Britain and reflect on the contrasts, connections and trends that defined the era. This programme engages children in critical thinking, teamwork and historical inquiry, offering a vibrant glimpse into life under Roman rule.
Activities include:
Military Drills
Think you’ve got what it takes to be a Roman soldier? Join the ranks and learn how to fight for the empire! Practice your formations, defend your comrades, and prove your courage on the training ground. But beware, Rome demands total dedication. Are you ready to give it your all?
Boudicca's Revolt
The year is AD 60, and rebellion is in the air! Will you stand with the Romans to defend the Empire, or join Queen Boudicca in her fight for freedom?
Take part in this thrilling
re-enactment of one of history’s most famous uprisings.
Artefacts
Step into the Roman marketplace and uncover treasures from the past! From elegant pottery to mysterious tools, you’ll discover how these artefacts were made and used. Can you guess what they’re worth and who might have owned them?
Fire Lighting
Can you survive like a Roman? Try your hand at making a fire using traditional Roman techniques. Whether you’re cooking for your legion or signalling for reinforcements, this skill is essential for any Roman soldier. Will you rise to the challenge or freeze in the cold?
Medicus Medicine Garden
Do you have the skills of a Roman healer? Gather herbs, create remedies, and show the Medicus you’ve got what it takes to care for the sick. The health of Calleva could depend on you!
Archery
Step into the sandals of a Roman auxiliary soldier! Learn how to use a bow and arrow and practice your aim just like the soldiers who defended the Empire. Can you hit the target and prove yourself ready to join the ranks of the Roman army, or will your aim need more practice?
Roman Games
It’s time to take a break! Join the Romans in their favourite games, from clever board games to skill-based challenges. Can you outwit your opponents and prove you’re a true Roman champion?
Roman Skills
Do you have what it takes to become a Roman craftsman? Try your hand at spinning wool for fine Roman garments, building fences to protect
the farm, or mastering the art of fire-making for the busy kitchens. Show your skill and impress the town officials, or risk being cast out of the
city gates with no coin in
your purse!
Roman Banquet
Come and feast like a Roman! Take part in a grand banquet with food, music, and performances. Learn how Romans celebrated their victories and entertained their guests. Will your performance impress your hosts and earn you a place at the table of honour?
Crime and Punishment
What happens when Roman law is broken? Find out as you explore the courts, witness trials, and discover the punishments handed out to criminals. Will you be able to argue your innocence, or will justice take a darker turn?
Roman
Augury Trail
Do you dare to uncover the gods’ secrets? Follow the trail of an augur, interpreting signs from nature to guide the future of our town. But tread carefully, the gods’ messages are not for the faint of heart!
