Do you have the skills of a Roman healer? Gather herbs, create remedies, and show the medicus you’ve got what it takes to care for the sick. The health of Calleva could depend on you!

Romans relied on herbs and natural remedies to treat illnesses and injuries. In this session, children will step into the role of a Roman medicus, learning about ancient medical practices and preparing simple remedies using seasonal herbs. This activity highlights the intersection of science, tradition, and innovation in Roman healthcare.

Can you survive like a Roman? Try your hand at making a fire using traditional Roman techniques. Whether you’re cooking for your legion or signaling for reinforcements, this skill is essential for any Roman soldier. Will you rise to the challenge or freeze in the cold?

Students will learn fire-making techniques used by Romans for warmth, cooking, and signal fires. This activity builds practical skills while highlighting the challenges and resourcefulness of Roman soldiers and settlers in remote outposts.

Step into the sandals of a Roman auxiliary soldier! Learn how to use a bow and arrow and practice your aim just like the soldiers who defended the Empire. Can you hit the target and prove yourself ready to join the ranks of the Roman army, or will your aim need more practice?

Do you dare to uncover the gods’ secrets? Follow the trail of an augur, interpreting signs from nature to guide the future of our town. But tread carefully—the gods’ messages are not for the faint of heart!

In this activity, children will follow the path of a Roman augur, learning to recognise and "interpret" signs in nature. This immersive session helps students understand the intersection of religion, superstition, and governance in the Roman world.
