Challenge Programme for School Trips: Build Confidence, Teamwork and Resilience

Our Challenge Programme is designed to push children beyond their limits, offering a transformative adventure that fosters personal growth and teamwork. Perfect for school trips and group activities, this programme encourages participants to embrace new challenges and discover their full potential.

Through exciting activities like the Power Tower, Tripod Swing, Bridge Challenge, Low Ropes, Plank Walk, Multi Ball, and Caterpillar Walk, children experience the thrill of overcoming fears, the pride of achieving tough goals and the resilience built by tackling obstacles head-on.

The Challenge Programme is structured around three key pillars:

  1. Feel Something: Participants experience the excitement of pushing their limits, developing emotional resilience and self-confidence.

  2. Build Something: Through teamwork-focused challenges, students strengthen essential skills such as collaboration, communication, leadership, and problem-solving.

  3. Try Something New: By stepping out of their comfort zones, students nurture courage, adaptability, and curiosity—critical traits for future success.

Every Challenge trip is highly customisable to suit your school's needs, ensuring a meaningful, high-impact experience for every child. Whether you are planning a Year 7 school trip or a team-building excursion, our Challenge Programme promises an unforgettable journey of growth and discovery.

Activities

Woodland Games give children the chance to explore and enjoy our ancient woodland through traditional outdoor activities such as hide and seek, tracking, and team challenges. Children work together, using the natural landscape to hide, seek, and strategies. The activity nurtures adventure, creativity, and confidence as they move through the trees, navigate natural features, and immerse themselves in imaginative play. They build teamwork, social skills, and resilience while developing a deeper connection to the natural world. The aim is for every child to enjoy active, joyful play and discover the magic of the outdoors.

Woodland Games

Enjoy the outdoors, create a relaxing atmosphere, and share a simple, enjoyable experience of toasting marshmallows over an open flame. A classic outdoor experience!

Campfire

Participants are blindfolded or otherwise unable to use their sight, and they must work together to navigate a trail through a woodland or natural area. The trail is designed to challenge participants' abilities to rely
on their other senses, hearing, touch and smell to understand their surroundings and move safely.

Woodland Sensory Trail

Design and build a functional catapult using provided materials. The teams will compete to launch objects the farthest, most accurately, or with the highest precision.

Catapults

Join us for an unforgettable evening of music, dancing, and adventure at the Woodland Boogie Bash! Nestled among the trees, this unique event brings together the energy of a lively dance party with the serene beauty of the forest. With twinkling fairy lights hanging from the branches, a DJ spinning groovy tunes, and the crisp woodland air setting the perfect backdrop, this bash promises an enchanting blend of fun and relaxation. Come dressed for a night of dancing, nature exploration, and making memories. Let’s get down and boogie in the woods!

Woodland Boogie Bash

The Challenge Wall invites children to climb up and over wooden walls of increasing height, choosing how far they want to push themselves. Children can take on each wall independently or work together by offering boosts, guidance, and encouragement. With every attempt, they build resilience, confidence, problem-solving skills, and trust. The aim is for every child to overcome the obstacles safely and celebrate their determination and shared success.

Challenge Wall

Low ropes involve a series of obstacles or elements, such as ropes, beams, and balance challenges, set close to the ground. The participants are required to work together to navigate the course, either individually or as part of a group.

Low Ropes

It involves participants working together to move a large barrel or series of barrels, which are typically positioned on the ground or elevated on a platform. The barrels can be used in various challenges, often involving balance, coordination, and communication skills.

Barrel Boarding

Teams must work together to transport themselves and their resources from one side of an area to another without touching the ground.

Bridge the Gap

Who will win the A- Frame walking race? An A-Frame activity involves creating a structure using two straight pieces (like wooden planks or poles) that form an A-shape when leaned against each other. Participants work together to build or navigate the frame, either as a physical challenge (like crossing or balancing on it) or a collaborative design activity. This activity promotes teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills, while engaging participants in a hands-on, experiential learning experience.

A Frame Walking

Archery is a sport or activity that involves using a bow to shoot arrows at a target. The goal is to hit the target with precision and accuracy, often from varying distances. Archery requires focus, control, and strength, as well as a good understanding of form and technique.

Archery

Teams will design, construct, and race their own vehicles or chariots using pioneering skills. The activity emphasises creativity, teamwork, and innovation, as each team collaborates to create a functional vehicle. The challenge also involves strategic thinking as teams decide how to balance design, efficiency, and speed.

Rope and Roll

A range of fun icebreaker challenges to kickstart your residential visit: teams will complete Gutterball, Earthbalk, Catterpillar Walk and Boardwalking. A great way to introduce key PSHE concepts explored throughout the residential.

Team Building Carousel

Participants work together to construct a stable wooden tripod frame and safely attach a swing, developing teamwork, problem-solving, and basic knot-tying skills. Once built, participants enjoy taking turns on the swing while reflecting on engineering principles and collaborative design.

Tripod Swing

Den Building invites children to get creative in the woodland, using natural materials like branches, leaves, and logs to build their own shelters. Children can design and construct independently or work together in small teams, deciding on structure, stability, and how to make their den weather-proof. The activity encourages imagination, resilience, and practical problem-solving as they experiment with different shapes and techniques. Along the way, they develop communication, cooperation, and a sense of ownership over their creations. The aim is for each group to build a sturdy, functional den and enjoy bringing their ideas to life in a natural setting
