Activities KS1
Compass Navigation
Children discover the basics of compass navigation in Ufton’s magical woodland. This hands-on session introduces simple directional language (North, South, East, West) through playful exploration and problem-solving challenges.
Map Reading
During this immersive session, children will develop early map skills by using simple plans, following picture maps, and spotting key landmarks hidden in nature.
Through hands-on challenges—like building their own mini treasure maps and navigating woodland trails—pupils will practise key geography objectives from the KS1 curriculum, including using locational and directional language, recognising simple map symbols, and understanding how maps represent real places.
Orienteering
Children will learn to use simple map symbols and compass directions to find hidden clues around Ufton's beautiful grounds. Linking to the KS1 geography curriculum, pupils will practise positional language (left, right, near, far), follow a route, and use basic compass points (N, S, E, W) in a hands-on orienteering challenge. A perfect blend of adventure and learning, designed to boost teamwork, spatial awareness, and early navigation skills.
Geocaching
for Extended Day Visits
Grab your compass, sharpen your map-reading skills, and get ready for a real-world adventure! In this exciting outdoor session, pupils become geocachers—modern-day treasure hunters using GPS coordinates and navigational clues to uncover hidden caches around Ufton’s grounds.
