Woodland Discovery
EYFS and KS1 Outdoor Learning School Trips
Our Woodland Discovery day visits offer a rich outdoor learning experience for EYFS and KS1 children, carefully designed to support key areas of the curriculum throughout the year. Aligned with the EYFS framework and National Curriculum, these immersive sessions nurture curiosity, communication, and confidence while deepening children’s understanding of the changing environment around them.
With four seasonal programmes—Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer—each visit provides unique, hands-on opportunities to explore the natural world and build essential skills.
Our Woodland Discovery programme is designed to engage students from EYFS to Year 2, aligning with curriculum requirements across Art and Design, Biology, Geography, Personal and Physical Development and PSHE.

Autumn, The Oak Tree
Discovering the Oak Tree
Explore the fascinating ecosystem of an oak tree! Children will investigate the tree's structure, learn about the plants and animals it supports, and discover how they all depend on each other.
Leaf and Flower Detectives
Become leaf and tree detectives! Children will identify different trees by observing their leaves, bark, and seeds, using simple keys to guide their discoveries.
Leaf Crowns and Printing
Get creative with nature by making leaf crowns and leaf prints! Children will collect a variety of leaves, use them to craft wearable crowns, and create beautiful prints by pressing leaves onto paper with a range of media. This activity combines art and outdoor exploration, fostering creativity and appreciation for the natural world.
Woodland Discovery: Winter Wonderland
Frosty Forest
Take a winter walk through the woodland. Children explore the woods to discover seasonal changes, bare trees, evergreen plants, animal tracks and signs of wildlife. They’ll collect natural materials like twigs, leaves and pinecones to make wild art. This activity encourages observation, curiosity, and a love of the outdoors.
Cosy Shelters
Work together to create a woodland shelter. In small groups, children use natural materials to build a den or winter hideaway. This hands-on activity develops teamwork, problem-solving and creative thinking while helping children understand how animals and humans keep warm during winter.
Campfire Stories
Warm up with a group fire and woodland tales. Children gather around a supervised campfire to learn basic fire safety, enjoy the warmth of the fire, and share stories inspired by the woodland.
Spring or Summer: That’s My flower
Signs of Spring or Summer
Discover the signs of spring or summer in the woodlands! Children will explore changes in nature, such as budding leaves, blooming flowers, and active wildlife, while learning how these signals mark the changing seasons.
Track and Trail
Embark on an exciting journey to explore animal tracks and trails! Children will learn to identify different signs of wildlife, such as footprints, feeding marks, and droppings, while discovering how animals move and survive in their habitats.
Nature Paintbrush
Unleash creativity with Nature's Paintbrush, where children create art using natural materials like leaves, twigs, and petals. They’ll explore patterns, textures, and colours found in nature while developing observation and fine motor skills.
Mini Beast Hide and Seek
Discover the hidden world of mini beasts and pond creatures! Children will explore habitats by searching for insects in their natural environments or dipping into ponds to uncover aquatic life.
Sounds of Spring or Summer
Discover the vibrant sounds of summer through this engaging activity! Children will explore their surroundings, identify different natural and man-made sounds, and learn how these sounds shape the season. This activity fosters listening skills, creativity, and an appreciation for the environment.
